2018 Graphic Design USA In-House Design Awards Winner
The program book for the annual Franklin Institute Awards week celebrations. This book contains a schedule of events for the week as well as a synopsis of each award winner is either for a scientific discovery or business innovation.
The Challenge: The older Convocation book's design needed a refresh. The text was really dense and photos were so small, few and far between but we knew the content was really exciting and interesting. This Awards program also produced videos with interviews with each scientist. We wanted to make sure this keepsake program book was just as engaging as the videos, to showcase it's content and winners.
The Solution: Feature each scientist prominently by giving each of them their own spread. The new design features a pull quote to help the reader understand what each scientist is about with a quick skim or to catch their attention to dive deeper. The call to action was made much more prominent, and the timeline, of who else won the same award in the past, was spread out to each winner's page, rather than collecting them all in the back. It's cool to see someone from modern day win the same award as Alexander Graham Bell!
